Baby Its Cold Outside

February 25th, 06:15 am

Yes, that’s me in a bathrobe in freezing temperatures taking photos. Look closely and you can even see snow on the handrail.

I love being curled up in bed, but some days things are just so beautiful you have to get up.

I threw a bathrobe over my penguin pyjamas and ventured out into the cold, just like the great explorers did.

"Do you think Captain Scott wore penguin pyjamas?"

And I’m so glad I did, because this day was probably one of the best days of my life (so far).

Neko Harbour - probably one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Neko Harbour was discovered by the Belgian polar explorer de Gerlache during his 1897―99 expedition and it got it’s name from the whaling ship and floating factory Neko that was based here from 1911―24.

This is such a beautiful, tranquil place, you could sit for hours watching the Gentoo Penguins waddle around. Weddell and fur seals haul out to sunbathe too. Sit here long enough and you’ll be engulfed by the sound of thousands of penguins and the glacier calving into the bay, creating tsunami that can reach the beach in seconds.

It’s also a summer retreat for Minkes and Humpbacks, and today the Minkies were out and wanted to play.

And there's only one song that could accompany this
